CD1 is a capacitor-discharge, electronic microcircuit-based ignition system for small 1 to 8 cylinder industrial engines. The system, powered from 12-24VDC, has no moving parts. Step-up coils, either individual (one per cylinder) or a multi-tower coil module (one serving 4 or 6 cylinders) are used to eliminate the conventional high-tension distributor. Employing digital circuitry, the CD1 unit processes signals from a magnetic pickup, sensing drilled reference holes or protrusions. This provides accurate and consistent timing referenced directly to the engine’s crankshaft or camshaft. The CD1 uses the high energy, capacitor discharge (C.D.) principle which provides maximum engine performance and can extend spark plug life three to five times compared to an inductive system. The CD1 system can be applied in either single-firing or doublefiring (exhaust stroke firing) modes. Four CD1 units are offered having 3, 4, 6 or 8 outputs: - 791010-3 for 1 to 6 cylinder engines, double-firing system - 791010-4 for 1 to 8 cylinder engines, double-firing system - 791010-6 for 3 to 6 cylinder engines, single-firing system - 791010-8 for 4 to 8 cylinder engines, single-firing system All operate from either 12 or 24VDC keeping stocking requirements to a minimum. Indicating LED’s quickly convey whether proper pickup signals are being received and if the corresponding output signals are correct. The low cost CD1 system brings the quality and benefits of an industrial, capacitor-discharge ignition to small engine users.
